  • Introduction

Arindam Lahiri, CEO, Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) said “As the technology-cost curve is becoming steeper, more technologies are finding their way into the automotive sector at present. Be it hybrid technology or electric vehicles, the automotive industry is evolving at a rapid pace. The program’s goal is to train engineering and diploma students to fill the supply deficit of the skilled automotive workforce. The industry has to cope with rapid digitalization to meet the growing demands of our consumers. It is facing a rising skills shortage."

The government had initiated the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan in the year 2013 to put 6-7 million electric vehicles on Indian roads by 2020 and committing to achieving 30 percent e-mobility in the country by 2030. To achieve this goal India will need to create a skilled and trained workforce that has expertise in design and testing, battery manufacturing and management, sales, services, and infrastructure of electric vehicles.
